Characteristics
Field Bindweed is a noxious perennial, tending to grow where there is soil disturbance. The root of this plant can extend 20 feet deep. It reproduces by seeds, which can remain viable for 40 years, and by it’s extensive root system. It outcompetes and strangles neighboring plants. It is mildly poisonous to livestock.
Control
This is a difficult weed to kill. Pulling or mowing are completely ineffective because of the extensive root system. 2,4-D herbicide will also kill the plant, but it may take several rounds of application before the plant gives up.
